The Titanium SS is our top of the line super automatic espresso and cappuccino machine. You can actually call this super automatic a Coffee Center because it allows you to create practically any coffee drink you could imagine and in most cases, replaces the drip coffee maker altogether. The 100% stainless steel housing encloses the same internals as our Gaggia Titanium, as well as the cobalt blue LCD digital display and seven push buttons that operate many of the features on this well-built machine. Five temperature settings, an on/off timer and clock, three coffee volume settings, pre-infusion, and the pre-grind feature are all programmable through the menu that appears on the cobalt blue digital display. The Gaggia Titanium SS is equipped with two stainless steel-lined boilers that provide a Rapid Steam System, making it powerful enough to brew and then steam with no down time. Features like the bypass doser, adjustable coffee strength, and adjustable grind settings make it possible for you to produce coffeehouse style drinks like a seasoned barista. In addition, the stainless steel turbo-frother and automatic frothing attachment, which dispenses frothed milk directly into your cup, make frothing and steaming a snap, while the bypass doser allows you to add pre-ground decaffeinated or flavored coffee directly into the espresso machine ¿ a fantastic feature for those who entertain in the evening. (Manual is terrible). My family has made over 1,500 cups now and we love our machine. I bought my Gaggia Titanium about 1 year ago and hated it for the first month. (Use the arrow buttons to get the asterik on factory settings. It makes a nice, authentic Italian "crema" too. I went to fix it.com and found someone who was able to solve the problem. You will have to reset the cup sizes.I haven't seen the ventilate sign for a long time now.
We use Lavazza Super Crema beans ($27 for 2.2 pounds) It's a smooth, mellow tasting Italian bean that is not bitter or greasy. The machine kept showing the "ventilate" sign (apparently a common problem) and I couldn't figure out what to do. It is very easy to clean too. Go in the menu and get the asterik to show next to factory settings. Push "yes." That should solve the problem. (Beans never get stuck in the hopper). Enjoy.
This machine worked correctly from the start. It comes apart and cleans easily. I did spend 10 minutes or so reading directions but the controls are easily intuitive. It signals you when it needs more water or the used grounds dumped. I;m very happy I purchased it.PS. This is the only review I've ever written.
I was very leery of spending this kind of money on a product that might or might not work.but I am very very happy- we love the Gaggia and totally enjoy it.I have severe RA and cannot manage much- this item is totally user friendly to anyone with hand strength problems- I have no trouble using it.it is a welcome surprise to a lot of items that are hard to use- the other user friendly products I find are all of kitchenaid.yes we enjoy the gaggia and coffee time is very special- the frother works perfect i use it daily.anyone looking for the best out there should consider this machine.
Unfortunately, like a 1970's Alpha Romeo, good looks and great performance don't add up to a hill of (coffee) beans over the long run when reliability is taken into account. This started to give trouble after about 14 months with the boiler leaking steam and flooding the counter-top which, given the claims of a stainless steal "durable" boiler was risible. My first machine was dead on arrival with the fateful "Ventilate" issues seen by other purchasers. The second machine, which although shipped and sold by Amazon was manufactured 18 months prior to my purchase (Jan 2007). This, coupled with the fact that the brewunit has jammed three times (requiring a trip to the local repair shop) means that 18 months in to the purchase I've spent over $650 in maintenance fees. For 2-3 cups of coffee per day, a trip to Starbucks begins to look cheap.
The beans have a tendancy to hang up in the hopper and I constantly have to open the hopper and manually push the beans down the hole. For the money this thing cost.a major inconvienence.
